When a male red-tailed hawk courts a female, he tries to get her attention by climbing as high as possible. He then points himself toward Earth and dives toward the ground. In case she didn't notice, he swoops upward and climbs again, straight up if possible. He'll do this over and over. When he's confident she's finally noticed him, he'll float down to her and touch her softly with his legs. It's at that moment they may embrace and spiral together toward the ground even as they do their part to extend their species.
